Reviews We ventured to one of the only Afghan establishments with trepidation given the current situation - bombs started dropping on their homeland only four days later. I was plesantly surprised. Te quality of the food was good, and as Afghanistan is a landlocked country I decided to miss out on my customary prawn/seafood dishes. My starter was an interesting kind of pasta filled with leeks and lamb mince with a lentil sauce - very good. The carrot side dish was wonderful, and nicely spicy, though like all the food less spicy than most Indian restaurants. A lamb kebab main course was washed down with Murree. Is there any Afghan beer? Sadly American imperialism has struck again, and like the Taliban, the Caravan Serai Afghan is no more and is now Bombay Spice - a fully air-conditioned Indian Restaurant with special party rooms available. But marvel at what it used to be like:<p> To date this is the only restaurant we have visited that features a Taliban cocktail on the menu. We however stuck to the Murree beer.<p> Superb starters accompanied by pickled carrots, followed by a varied selection of lamb dishes. The Naan bread was very good and they also do rice and some sort of saag dish. The turnip side dish was unfortunately unavailable, but we did get a complimentary dish of gloop to make up for this.<p> Suprisingly empty for 9-30pm on a Wednesday, with only three or four other people in there the whole time we were there.<p> Overall well worth re-visiting if only to view the varied selection of swords and guns attached to the walls.<p><p> Note added 8th October 2003: Added by Tony Love, Wednesday 8 October 2003 17:26
