Reviews We hadn't booked, which usually is no problem for a Tuesday night especially for a group of just 3 people. However at Benares this is a problem and we were kept waiting in the bar for about 45 minutes. Everything on the menu looked good, so we had a set menu costing 35 pounds per head which included poppadums with very good chutneys, a fried salmon starter, and for the main meal we had a fantastic lamb shank, aloo paneer, various breads, and rice. Included with the set menu was a choice of any desert, which luckily were all quite small. For 50 pounds each a different glass of wine could have been brought with each course - which in fact would have been a good idea because with cobra we ended up paying 51 pounds a head anyway.
